About US Apostille

Apostille and Document Legalization Services by
Hague Apostille Services

Hague Apostille Services provides comprehensive document legalization solutions for U.S.-issued documents, ensuring hassle-free international recognition.

The United States has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention since 1994, with the treaty taking effect on April 1, 2008. Under this agreement, documents authenticated with an apostille—a standardized certification—are legally recognized in over 120 participating countries without requiring further consular legalization.

An apostille certifies the authenticity of a public document, such as birth certificates, marriage records, court rulings, business documents, and notarial acts. It verifies the legitimacy of the signature and the authority of the issuing official.

For countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention, apostille certification alone is insufficient. In these cases, a consular legalization process is required for international validity.

Hague Apostille Services simplifies the apostille and legalization process, reducing the time and costs involved in certifying documents for global use.

Apostille Authorities in the United States

In the United States, different government entities are responsible for issuing apostilles based on the type of document:

  • U.S. Department of State – Legalizes federal documents.
  • Federal Court Secretaries – Authenticate documents issued by federal courts.
  • State Secretaries of State – Certify documents originating from their respective states.

The apostille process verifies both the authenticity of the document and the authority of the official who signed or sealed it. Once validated, an apostille certificate is affixed to the document, either as a separate attachment or directly on the reverse side.
