About Singapore Apostille

Singapore Apostille and Document Legalization Services by
Hague Apostille Services

Singapore officially joined the Hague Apostille Convention on January 18, 2021, and the agreement came into effect on September 16, 2021. This international treaty simplifies the authentication of public documents, ensuring seamless recognition across more than 120 member countries.

An apostille is a certification that verifies the authenticity of a public document, including birth and marriage certificates, court rulings, commercial documents, and notarized records. It confirms both the signature and the authority of the issuing official, eliminating the need for further authentication.

Documents issued in Singapore and certified with an apostille are legally recognized in all Hague Convention member states without requiring consular legalization. This significantly reduces processing time and costs for international document validation.

However, for countries outside the Hague Convention, additional consular legalization is required to ensure the document’s acceptance.

Apostille Authorities in the Singapore

In Singapore, the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is the designated authority for issuing apostille certificates. Every newly notarized document is recorded by the SAL, ensuring authenticity and compliance with international standards.

Verification & Authentication Process

Before issuing an apostille, the SAL conducts a thorough verification of signatures, stamps, and seals against its official records. If the document is deemed authentic, it receives an apostille certification—a legally recognized endorsement for international use.

Apostille Format in Singapore

The Singaporean apostille follows a standardized format, featuring a square stamp that includes text in English, Malay, Tamil, or Mandarin, along with the French reference to the 1961 Hague Convention (“Convention de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961”). The certificate’s dimensions must be at least 9 cm in length.
