About Philippines Apostille

Philippines Apostille and Document Legalization Services by
Hague Apostille Services

The Philippines officially joined the Hague Apostille Convention on September 12, 2018, with the agreement coming into effect on May 14, 2019. This allows for a simplified authentication process for documents intended for use in over 120 participating countries.

What is an Apostille?

An apostille is an official certification verifying the authenticity of a public document and the authority of the issuing official. It applies to records such as:

  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates
  • Court rulings and legal judgments
  • Notarized statements and business documents

Benefits of Apostille Certification

Documents issued in the Philippines that receive an apostille do not require additional consular legalization when used in Hague Convention member states. This significantly reduces processing time and costs, making international transactions smoother.

Exceptions & Additional Requirements

For countries not part of the Hague Convention, an apostille alone is insufficient. Instead, a consular legalization process must be followed.

Additionally, Greece, Germany, and Finland have formally objected to the Philippines’ accession. As a result, documents intended for use in these countries require an alternative verification method beyond apostille certification.

Hague Apostille Services provides expert assistance in ensuring your Philippine-issued documents meet global legal requirements for hassle-free international use.

Apostille Authorities in the India

In the Philippines, the responsibility for issuing apostille of documents falls under the competence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The authority will carefully examine the document to verify if the signatures, stamps, or seals align with their own records. If they are confirmed to be authentic, the document will be legalized by affixing an ‘apostille’ (an officially stamped certificate).

The apostille in the Philippines is a square stamp in Filipino or English with the obligatory heading “Apostille” and a reference to the 1961 Hague Convention in French (Convention de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961). The apostille certificate’s sides will be at least 9 centimeters long.
